My kos

My kos is in a suburb called Karanggayam (ayam means chicken in Indonesian, so thats how i remember it)... the other suburbs around it are called Karangasem and Karang-other things, so its confusing lol. It doesnt take me long to get anywhere. I can walk through all the little streets and lanes to uni in about fifteen or twenty mins which is a really nice walk, away from the busy roads. This morning I caught a bus to the Jogja Plaza, where Im a member of the gym (and pool!) and a bus to uni so Im orientating myself a bit.

My room is really nice. Its quite big tho, for a bedroom, i feel like i cant fill it up! Its nice, Im on the outside edge of the building so i get a bit of sun (although that means i also get a bit of noise from the street on the other side of the fence, hard to avoid i think). Ive spread my mess around so it feels quite homely. The other girls are nice too. Theres a couple of other aussies living there (coincidence) and i walk to uni and stuff with them sometimes. Ive had a chat to a couple of the others too, a couple of indonesian girls, a german and a japanese girl... they all seem nice. Havent been locked out yet, not having that many late nights!

Traditional dance performance at the Taman Budaya Jogja

Went to the Taman Budaya Jogja (lit. culture park) with some girls from acicis. We got this awesome local newspaper the other day and it has lots of free and little-known events going on around the city, and this was one of them. We got a taxi out there and had noodles (had to be indomie!) before the performance started. It was all free, a group from Gunung Kidul performing with a gamelan orchestra, dancing but in a way acting as well. Gamelan is really soothing, just kind of washes over you :) It was funny, they were trying to get some of the crowd into the story too. It was infront of this beautiful old building too... some important parliament building I think.

Dusk is the most beautiful time of day, ive got a bit of a fixation with sunset lol.... everyones really friendly and its heaps cooler :)
